Kitsune Daruma

In collaboration with The Crow Museum of Asian Art, I led a 6-person team to digitize a historical artifact called the Kitsune Daruma from the museum and create an animated short based on the artifact to better connect museum visitors to it.

When first ideating the animation, we knew we wanted it to be 2D-3D mixed media. There are many ways to achieve this, and it took a lot of debating and experimentation to figure out our pipeline. Initial ideas included animating the 2D portion in Adobe After Effects or a similar program, but that was quickly rejected as majority of our team did not know the program.

As Producer, I created timelines and asset lists for team members to use to keep track of issues and assignments.

After some trial and error, we settled on a mix of Maya and Blender. We modeled, rigged, and animated in Maya while the surfacing and rendering were done in Blender.
